DepEd to accept late enrollees for School Year 2021-2022 until Sept. 30


To accommodate late enrollees, the Department of Education (DepEd) has extended the enrollment period for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 until the end of this month.

During the virtual National School Opening Day on Monday, Sept. 13, DepEd Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo said that the enrollment for this school year in public schools has been extended until Sept. 30, 2021.

“Umaasa tayo na sa buwang ito ay mas mahihigitan natin yung numero ng enrolment natin noong nakaraang school year 2020 to 2021 dahil nga ngayong September 13 sa pagbubukas ng klase, meron na kaagad tayong 24.6 million enrollees (We expect that this month, we will exceed the number of enrollees for the school year 2020 to 2021 because as we open classes this September 13, we already have 24.6 million enrollees),” Escobedo explained.

Escobedo said that the extended enrollment period aims to encourage more parents and guardians to enroll the children for this SY 2021-2022.

“Batay po sa napag-usapan ng execom noong nakaraang pagmi-meeting, magpapalabas po tayo ng memorandum na kung saan ang Department of Education ay tatanggap ng enrollees hanggang September 30, 2021 (Based on what the execom discussed during the last meeting, we will release a memorandum stating that the Department of Education will accept enrolLees until September 30, 2021),” Escobedo said.

As of Sept. 13, DepEd said that there are 24, 603, 822 enrollees in formal basic education.

Of this number, 18, 561,298 learners are enrolled in public schools; 1, 443, 849 students are in private schools; and 41, 348 learners in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)/Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education.

Enrollment in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program also reached 198,297.

The regular enrollment period for public schools started on Aug. 16. Originally, the last day of enrollment was set on Sept. 13 which is also the first day of classes in for SY 2021-2022 in public schools Based on Order No. 32 s. of 2021, schools may provide various options to implement the enhanced enrollment process for the incoming SY.

DepEd said that in areas under stricter community quarantine classifications, a remote enrollment system should be in place to ensure the safety of teachers, parents and learners amidst the ongoing public health situation in the country due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Schools were also directed to make use of various platforms to ensure that enrollment would be accessible to as many stakeholders as possible. Parents and guardians may text, call, email, and send online messages to enroll the children.

DepEd said that in lower risk areas, limited physical submission of enrollment forms may be allowed as long as the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), the Office of the President, and the Department of Health (DOH) are observed and complied with.

Meanwhile, DepEd has allowed the submission of enrollment requirements until December 2021.

In DepEd Order No. 32 series of 2021, the agency said that the in recognition of the “difficulties presented by the current public health emergency and the guidelines” set by the IATF-MEID, the “deadlines for the submission of documentary requirements” shall be deferred to Dec. 31, 2021.

DepEd said that this will applies to both public and private schools.

With face-to-face classes still prohibited, DepEd is implementing blended learning this school year.

Students across all basic education levels will be learning inside their homes using multiple learning delivery modalities such as printed modular (printed and offline); online learning; television and radio-based instruction; or a combination or blending of these modalities under “blended learning.”
