PH Red Cross opens 'Bakuna Center' in Davao City

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recently opened a “Bakuna Center” in Davao City to vaccinate residents of the city and the nearby areas against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This new accredited vaccination center, which is located inside the Archdiocese Compound of Davao City, is the third Bakuna Center of the humanitarian organization in Mindanao, the PRC said.

“Despite the ongoing surge of cases, the Red Cross will continue to expand our Bakuna Buses and Bakuna Centers as we aim to reach out to more Filipinos,” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon said in a statement Sunday, Sept. 12.

“Our goal is to vaccinate as many as we can, especially now that our country now has lower vaccine hesitancy. Together, let us win the war against COVID-19,” he added.

PRC Health Services Manager Mark Abrigo said 402 individuals from COVID-19 priority groups A1 to A5 were vaccinated with Sinovac’s vaccine during the dry run on Sept. 11.

The newly inaugurated Bakuna Center in Davao City has been accredited by the Department of Health (DOH), the PRC said.

It will start its operations by Sept. 18, operating once a week, and targets to inoculate 1,000 clients with vaccines supplied by the local government unit.

As of Sept. 11, the PRC said it has vaccinated more than 205,060 individuals in their Bakuna Centers and mobile vaccination clinics dubbed as Bakuna Buses nationwide.

Currently, the PRC has established three Bakuna Centers in Mindanao located in Zamboanga City, Iligan City, and Davao City.

The organization plans to open a Bakuna Center in Misamis Oriental in the coming weeks.
