Joey De Leon reacts to Ping Lacson-Tito Sotto tandem

Actor-television host Joey de Leon has expressed full support to the tandem of senators Panfilo "Ping" Lacson and Vicente "Tito" Sotto III in the upcoming 2022 national elections, as he described the duo as "too/two" good.

"Pagkakakilala ko kay Tito, para sa aming grupo isang magaling na lider o pinuno. 'Yan ang huwaran namin pagdating sa kamag- anak o sa pamilya. Basta alam ko magaling si Tito, ganundin si Ping. Kaya one good plus one good eh 'two/too" good," said De Leon in an interview recently.

Lacson is running for president, while Sotto for vice president. Both senators are 73 years old.

Sotto is part of the comedy trio Tito, Vic, and Joey who appeared in dozens of blockbuster movies and popular television shows. These days the three celebrities are busy on "Eat Bulaga," the longest-running noontime program in the Philippines, although Sotto now a senator has recurring appearances in the show.

Netizens asked if the tandem launch of Lacson and Sotto last Sept. 8 was based on feng shui, considering the number 8 is an auspicious number in the ancient Chinese practice.

Originally, the tandem launch was set for Aug. 4. But it was reset due to the rising cases of Delta variant and Metro Manila was placed under lockdown again.

“Hindi natin dapat payagan ang maling akala para sa kinabukasan ng ating bansa (We cannot allow wrong assumptions to affect our nation’s future),” said Lacson during the launch. He also stressed the need for leaders who can lead by example.

“Kailangan na nating umaksyon. Kailangan na natin magsanib pwersa upang mapigilan at maitama ang mali. Ito na ang simula (We need to act. We need to work together to prevent and correct mistakes. This is the beginning),” said Sotto.
