Typhoon "Kiko" (international name "Chanthu") has further weakened while it continues to move over the coastal waters of Itbayat, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 5 p.m. bulletin on Saturday, Sept. 11.

PAGASA said Kiko has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph while moving north-northwest at 15 kph.

The outer circulation of the typhoon is still expected to continue to bring stormy weather over parts of northern Luzon in the next 24 hours.

Tropical cyclone wind signal number 4 remains hoisted over the northern portion of Batanes and Signal number 3 over the rest of Batanes.

Meanwhile, Signal No. 2 was still in effect in the northeastern portion of Babuyan Islands and Signal No. 1 over the rest of Babuyan Islands.

PAGASA said that tropical cyclone wind signals hoisted in other areas have been lifted.

However, Kiko may continue to bring heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over Batanes in the next 24 hours.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are also likely over Babuyan Islands, northern portion of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, and Benguet.

PAGASA warned against possible scattered to widespread flooding including flash floods and rain-induced landslides in these areas, especially those that are highly susceptible to these hazards.

In the next 24 hours, typhoon Kiko is also expected to continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or "habagat" and bring moderate to heavy monsoon rains over Metro Manila, the rest of Ilocos Region, and the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA said the typhoon may continue to move over the coastal waters of Itbayat, Batanes in the next three hours.

In the next 12 hours, Kiko will likely move north-northeast towards the sea east of Taiwan.

PAGASA said typhoon Kiko is seen to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday evening, Sept. 12.
