Iris Apfel marks 100th birthday with fashion collaboration with H&M

“Fashion comes and goes but style is forever,” the legendary fashion designer Gabrielle Coco Chanel once said. That quote has been the mantra of many generations of fashionistas, but if there is one that brings truth to it, that would be the maximalist Iris Apfel.

Last Aug. 29, 2021, the decorator, designer, and Instagram superstar honored her 100th birthday in the most Iris way possible, surrounded by metallic balloons while dressed in a gorgeous black and white polka dot dress, adorned with chunky necklaces and her signature oversized eyeglasses. Topping her special day is a party at Central Park Tower. Her centennial celebration continues with another style fest, this time, a collaboration with global fashion label H&M.

Loud and eclectic, the upcoming collaboration line promises to bring Iris' unabashed fashion spirit, bold choices, and everything exuberant, something that is definitely not the fashion faint-of-heart. Designed for all ages, expect to see pieces that are “rich with vibrant colors, vivid prints, and opulent fabric choices” and “over-the-top jewelry, which is very much a signum for Iris.”

“With this collaboration, we are celebrating a unique and extraordinary woman and her creative and audacious style,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M. “She shows that style is ageless and keeps encouraging people to show who they are with fashion—and to have fun at the same time.”

“Style is not about spending a lot of money. It’s not about what or who you wear, but how you feel when wearing something. Style is about self-expression and, above all, attitude,” says Iris. “I think that H&M is a fabulous outfit worldwide and absolute pioneers in their field—which I love! I love doing high style at affordable prices, which H&M has mastered!”

The Iris Apfel x H&M collection is set to be launched at the beginning of 2022.
