EJ Obiena finishes fourth in Wanda Diamond League Final

EJ Obiena ended his Wanda Diamond League campaign with a fourth-place finish in the Final at the Weltklasse Zurich in Switzerland Thursday (Friday in Manila).

The 25-year-old Olympian cleared 5.83 meters on his second attempt to prevail via countback against Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Chris Nilsen and KC Lightfoot of the United States, who posted the same height.

Obiena tried 5.93m with hopes of eclipsing his national record of 5.91m but failed.

Olympic champion and world record holder Armand Duplantis of Sweden ruled the event with 6.06m, shattering the old meet record of 5.95m posted by Russian Igor Trandenkov in 1996.

Two-time world champion Sam Kendricks of the United States claimed silver via countback over Russian Timur Morgunov after registering identical 5.93m marks.

Obiena pocketed $,4000 (around P199,000).
