Cinema '76 Film Society San Juan is shutting down operations

Cinema '76 announces that it will be closing its first branch located in San Juan City on Sept. 15, 2021 through a social media post.

"Our hearts may be heavy, but we know that this is not goodbye," the film society says. "We believe in the resilience of creatives in the industry. We believe in the passion of Filipino movie fans. Magkakasama-sama din tayo ulit sa loob ng sinehan."

Since it was established in 2016, the micro-cinema space has been championing Filipino movies, from independent and classic works to latest releases with its weekly screening. It also became a theater venue for foreign films and festivals such as Cinema One Originals, QCinema Film Festival, CineFilipino Film festivals, among others.

The pioneer moviehouse extended its mission by building another branch in Anonas, Quezon City. Filipino cinephiles are at the core of the film society. And with its masterclasses, it has educated people about what goes on behind the cameras.

With the global pandemic putting a halt on many things, including the film industry, Cinema '76 was forced to explore other ventures just to keep afloat. It offered online movie streaming through Cinema '76 @ Home and an alfresco café launched last June, near Anonas LRT station.
