Olsim's foe backs out due to health concerns

Team Lakay's Jenelyn Olsim won't be seeing action at the historic all-female card of ONE: Empower on Friday, Sep. 3 as Thai-American opponent Grace Cleveland backed away from their alternate atomweight grand prix bout due to health concerns.

Cleveland announced the development in an Instagram post that she had experienced "bad dizziness" for the past month and recently experienced it for four days straight.

Upon consulting with multiple doctors, she said one found out that she had benign paroxysmal positional vertigo which is treatable.

Cleveland is also waiting for the result of her brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan while seeing professional help from a physical therapist and a neurologist.

"Going get a couple opinions because I think when it comes to medical and health, it’s best to get more than one. Other than this issue I felt great physically and mentally; accomplishing a lot in my life," said the 28-year-old fighter from Denver, Colorado.

"I’m devastated though because I got the call to perform on One Championship. The best promotion in martial art and I could not perform my best due to this."

Cleveland apologized to Olsim and the promotion for what happened and vowed to return and "perform my best" once things have settled.

Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao and Olsim, meanwhile, wished for Cleveland's fast recovery while the Team Lakay female warrior also cheered for compatriot Denice Zamboanga, who will compete in the original grand prix lineup against South Korean veteran Seo Hee Ham.

"We pray that Grace will receive all the recovery she needs, that's the most pressing matter right now," said Sangiao.

Olsim, for her part, is fresh from her second promotional victory against another veteran in Bi Nguyen in their atomweight duel in ONE: Battleground 3 last Aug. 27.
