Jail guard donates breastmilk for baby whose mom dies after giving birth

A female personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has donated bags of breastmilk for a newborn baby whose mother died after giving birth.

Through social media, the family of the newborn baby has called for help to ask for breastmilk.

Jail officer Kathrine Jatico Lapasaran responded to the call by donating 13 bags of breastmilk, P500, and infant clothes.

Lapsaran is currently jail personnel of North Cotabato District Jail Female Dormitory.

The female jail officer said after she read the post, she thought that the baby might be hungry.

“Nagpapa-breastfeed din po kasi ako sa baby ko. Naawa lang po talaga ako kay baby kasi wala na siyang mama(I also breastfeed my baby. I just really feel sorry for the baby because he doesn't have a mother anymore),” Lapsaran was quoted in a Facebook post of the BJMP on Monday, Aug. 30.

“Nung nabasa ko yung Facebook post, naisip ko kagad na baka magutom kaya yung napump ko para sa baby ko, binigay ko muna at mas kailangan po niya (When I read the Facebook post, I immediately thought that the baby might be hungry so I pumped breastmilk, then I donated it after),” she added.

The BJMP has lauded the female officer for her good initiative, saying that “a woman, our modern hero.”
