DepEd reaches 51% of last year's enrollment with 13.5M enrollees for SY 2021-2022

On the first day of the school opening month, the Department of Education (DepEd) has reached over 13.5 million enrollees at the basic education level for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 1, enrollment figures released by DepEd showed that there are 13, 540, 090 enrollees for basic formal education for the incoming school year. Of this number, 4, 557, 327 are Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners who participated in the Early Registration held last March to May.

In preparation for SY 2021-2022 to start on Sept. 13, DepEd started its regular enrollment on Aug. 16.

Data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count showed that currently, there are 8, 892, 763 learners enrolled in public and private schools including State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)/Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education.

DepEd data also showed that there are 8, 472, 801 learners enrolled in public schools; 498, 343 students in private schools; and 11, 619 SUCs/LUCs.

Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollment with 2, 156, 276. It was followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1, 367, 108 and Region III with 1, 243, 975.

DepEd said that the current enrollment data is 51 percent of last school year’s total enrollment recorded at 26. 2 million.

Meanwhile, DepEd also recorded 117, 641 enrollees under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program which accounts for 19. 63 percent of last school year’s enrollment at 599, 365.
