Children banned from playing video games on weekdays in China

The China government has been going stricter when it comes to children having access to online video games. In 2019, the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) has set limits of restricted play only for 90 minutes on weekdays and three hours on weekends for children below 18 years old. This move was decided upon as an effort to prevent children from getting addicted to video games.

Well, they're laying down an even tighter leash, or should we say, law again. Just last Monday, August 30, the agency announced that kids below 18 years old are not at all allowed to play on weekdays, even limiting their online play to three hours on the weekends.

According to CNN.com, this law starts this week . Children are only allowed to play online between 8 to 9 p.m. on weekends including public holidays. Students in China are back in school this week, which is why the law started being implemented this week as well. The NPPA reasons that it is best to start "at the beginning of the new semester, putting specific requirements for preventing the addiction to online games, and protecting the healthy growth of minors."
