Trough of LPA to bring scattered rains over Visayas, parts of Mindanao -- PAGASA

The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) east of Eastern Samar may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga Region in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Aug. 9.
The LPA was estimated at 610 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar early Monday morning.
PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the LPA remains less likely to intensify into a tropical depression within 12 to 24 hours but they will continue to monitor this weather disturbance as forecast scenarios can still change.
Those in Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga were advised to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may sometimes become moderate to heavy.
Moreover, the southwest monsoon or "habagat" still prevails and will likely bring light to moderate to at times heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan islands.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
