Trough of LPA, 'habagat' to trigger rains over parts of PH -- PAGASA

Several parts of the country may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours due to the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon or "habagat," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday afternoon, Aug. 9.

As of 3 p.m, the LPA was at 335 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar but its advancing clouds are expected to bring rain showers over Visayas, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Masbate, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, will bring rain showers over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.

PAGASA advised those in areas affected by the trough of LPA and habagat to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may sometimes become moderate to heavy.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may have partly to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
