Mayor Isko: 'If Lee Kuan Yew did it, so can we;' breaks ground for 5th vertical housing project

The city of Manila broke ground for the construction of its fifth vertical housing project, the San Lazaro Residences, on Quiricada and Alvarez Streets in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Monday, Aug. 9.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

In his speech, Domagoso said 382 families will benefit from the housing project in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

“Today is a testament of our commitment to the people of Manila of decent housing,” the mayor said.

“Lee Kuan Yew did it. I’ve been saying it, they did it. If they did it, we can do it here in Manila, disenteng masisilungan, mauuwian. Ibabalik natin ang dignidad ng pamilyang Manilenyo hanggat kaya natin, di tayo titigil (decent shelter, home. We will bring back the dignity of families in Manila as much as we can, we will not stop),” he added.

The San Lazaro Residences is a 20-story building with 382 residential units and 132 parking slots. It also has a health center, swimming pool, activity lawn, function room, roof deck and garden, and indoor activity areas.

A public health laboratory will also be built in the building, according to Domagoso.

There will be a total of six elevator units in the housing project, five for residential use, and one for the use of the public health laboratory.

San Lazaro Residences is part of the three additional in-city vertical housing projects which were announced by Domagoso in his third state of the city address on July 15. The other two are the Pedro Gil Residences and San Sebastian Residences.

The city’s other housing projects that have been built or are currently under construction are BaseCommunity, Tondominium 1 and 2, and Binondominium.
