Hospitals to discuss 'uncertainties' in COVID-19 coverage with PhilHealth

The Philippine Hospital Association (PHA) on Monday, Aug. 9, said it is set to have a meeting with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Tuesday to discuss "uncertainties" regarding the coverage for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients.

Speaking to GMA News' Unang Balita, PHA President Dr. Jaime Almora said there are problems, especially among small hospitals, that need to be resolved with PhilHealth.

"Tomorrow we will have a meeting with PhilHealth and we will try to discuss with them our problems, our uncertainties, and confusion among the hospitals, especially the small hospitals, what's really their role in COVID," Amora said.

He noted that some memorandum circulars and orders from PhilHealth cause "information disconnect" and confusion among regional offices and hospitals.

"Parang pag nag-admit ng COVID, nakikipagsugal sila. Hindi nila alam kung ito ba ay tatanggapin ng PhilHealth na babayaran to o hindi (It's like when hospitals admit COVID patients, they're gambling. They don't know if PhilHealth will pay for them or not)," Amora added.

In May, Almora said hospitals' receivables from PhilHealth remained high, ranging from P50 million to P700 million, forcing hospitals to borrow from banks or downsize its staff and bed capacities.
