Fundraiser launched for world championship campaign of powerlifter Joyce Reboton
By Carlo Anolin
A fundraiser was launched for powerlifter Joyce Reboton in the hopes of covering the expenses needed for the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Halmstad, Sweden in September.

Reboton, currently the No. 1 Filipino powerlifter based on the International Powerlifting Federation Good Lift (IPF GL) points, is currently ranked No. 4 in the world in the -76kg with 498.0 points.
Willord Capulong, who has worked with Reboton for seven years now, launched the gogetfunding.com campaign which has garnered a total of P107,600 monetary donations and 22 backers as of posting.
The estimated total cost of their trip, which includes meal allowance, visa application, flight expenses, anti-doping fee, among others, is around P328,000.
"We never expected that training to compete internationally in Powerlifting can be financially tough. I have spent so much to keep Joyce's training at a high level - we spend hours in training, athletic care, and mindset and she receives nothing but competition funding only (if the medal is assured)," Capulong stated in one of their requests.
"Since it's the world stage now, and that any medal is not assured, we were advised to NOT rely on the pending funding request because it may not be approved."
Capulong added that the team can only apply for visa "if 100% of the financial estimates are covered."
Aside from the expenses, being fully vaccinated is required by the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines (PAP).
Reboton and her team got their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine last July 27.
The 29-year-old Reboton qualified for the world championships after ruling the 2021 National Open and Age-group tilt in Quezon City on July 5.
She also bagged the Best Lifter Award in the Women's Open Classic Category.
