Bulacan now has 7 Delta variant cases

Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando directed the Provincial Task Force (PTF) to be more vigilant and to tighten preventive measures after the province recorded seven confirmed cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Fernando issued the directive after three more cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant were recorded in the City of Malolos, Guiguinto, and Pandi. The first four previous Delta variant cases were recorded in San Ildefonso, Sta. Maria, Plaridel, and in the City of San Jose Del Monte.

According to the PTF response cluster head Dr. Hjordis Marushka Celis, they are conducting contact tracing on those who were close contacts of the new Delta variant cases.

On August 7, during the turn-over of the 1,830 family food packs to families in the flooded areas of Barangay Meysulao in Calumpit town, Fernando said that he met with Bulacan mayors on Friday afternoon via Zoom.

Fernando said he consulted the mayors on his plan to request the National IATF for a strict quarantine classification due to the rising Delta variant cases in the province.

It was agreed during the meeting to keep the province under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions until August 15.

Fernando, however, said that if COVID-19 cases in the province continue to rise, they may have to shift the province to the strictest quarantine classification Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
