5 fishermen rescued from capsized motorbanca off Zambales

Five fishermen were rescued from a motorbanca which capsized due to rough seas off waters of San Antonio town of Zambales, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday, Aug. 9.

In an incident report, the five fishermen were sailing near Silanguin Cove in Barangay Pundaquit, Zambales when huge waves and strong winds battered their motorbanca which caused it to capsize.

Upon receiving the information, the PCG Station Zambales deployed search and rescue team to locate the missing fishermen. However, the rescue operations were terminated due to rough seas and heavy rainfall on Thursday, Aug. 5.

The PCG personnel resumed the rescue operations on Friday morning, Aug. 6.

Personnel of the PCG substation Antonio and vessel F/BCA El Kapitan, as requested by the families of the missing fishermen, have also joined the rescue operations.

Fortunately, the exact location of the distressed fishermen was located through the Global Positioning System (GPS) of their mobile phones.

The five fishermen were rescued at 12:36 p.m. in Barangay Pundaquit, San Antonio, Zambales. They were identified as Rodrigo Monotoc, Pedro Moran, Armado Dalut, Romeo Martinez, and RJ Martinez.

They were taken to the Subic Public Order and Safety Office (SPOSO) for further medical assistance before they will be returned to their respective families.
