Manila's COVID-19 Field Hospital reaches 88% bed occupancy

The bed occupancy rate of Mega COVID-19 Field Hospital reached 88 percent, Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said on Saturday (August 7).

The COVID-19 Field Hospital has a 344 bed capacity, 302 of which are now occupied with patients afflicted with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as of Saturday (August 7).

"Ayan po malapit na pong mapuno kaya hopefully kaawaan tayo ng Diyos kayanin natin ang lahat ng ito (It's almost full. I hope God will have mercy on us and we can handle it all)," Domagoso said.

The six district hospitals in the city also reached 42 percent of their bed capacity with a total of 208 beds occupied.

The city government determined if those afflicted with the deadly disease were already vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Based on the report from the seven hospitals in the city, 11 percent of patients with COVID-19 were only partially vaccinated, 24 percent of them were fully vaccinated while 65 percent of them were unvaccinated.

Domagoso highlighted the importance of vaccines amid the spike of COVID-19 cases as it is the only protection against the deadly disease.

"Kaya gusto ko maliwanag sa inyo kung bakit ko gusto na kailangan mag pabakuna tayo sa lalong madaling panahon. Kahit gaano kahirap pumila, kahit gaano kahirap ang dami, ang importante ay mabakunahan kayo dahil iyon at tiyak na proteksyon sa bawat batang Maynila (I want it to be clear with you, why I want all of you to be vaccinated. Even if it's hard to wait in line, what's important is for you to be vaccinated because that's your only protection)," Domagoso said.

"Kapag ikaw ay hindi bakunado malaki ang tsansa na ikaw ay maimpeksyon (If you're not vaccinated there's a higher chance that you'll be infected)," he added.

As of Saturday (August 7), the local government recorded 149 new infections, increasing the total number of current active cases to 964, and bringing the total tally to 69,805.

It also recorded 101 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 67,430.
