PH's daily new COVID-19 cases up by 32% in just 7 days -- OCTA

The average number of new daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country has increased by 32 percent in the previous week, based on the OCTA Research's latest monitoring report released on Saturday, Aug. 7.
The average number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the country increased by 32 percent to 7,947 cases during the July 31-Aug. 6 monitoring period, from 6,003 cases on July 24-30.
OCTA said the country's reproduction number, or the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual, is at 1.33.
Its monitoring report also showed that Metro Manila's average daily COVID-19 cases increased by 67 percent, from 1,149 cases to 1,915 cases.
The reproduction number in Metro Manila also rose to 1.74, from 1.5 over the past week.
Among the local government units with more than 100 percent increase in daily new cases are Santa Maria, Bulacan (169 percent); Cabuyao, Laguna (161 percent); Parañaque City (153 percent); Pasay City (126 percent); Mandaluyong City (125 percent); Valencia City, Bukidnon (114 percent); and Taguig City (104 percent).
Meanwhile, ICU utilization has reached the "very high risk" level in Meycauayan, Bulacan (100 percent); Cabuyao, Laguna (100 percent); Calamba, Laguna (93 percent); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (90 percent); San Pedro, Laguna (86 percent); Iloilo City (85 percent); and Makati City (85 percent).
OCTA Research explained that the risk level of an area is assessed using the indicators of the Covid Act Now developed by the Harvard Global Health Institute, Apple, Microsoft, and Bloomberg.
