PH COVID-19 cases continue to rise with over 11K new infections

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines are continuing to rise as the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 11,000 new infections on Saturday, Aug. 7.
There were 11,021 new cases detected, putting the country's running tally of confirmed cases to 1,649,341, as shown in the latest case bulletin of the DOH.
The last time that the country saw over 11,000 cases in a single day was on April 17 with 11,101 cases then.
Active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines stand at 76,063 cases or 4.6 percent of the overall case count.
Ninety-three percent of the active cases have mild symptoms, three percent are asymptomatic, one percent are in critical state, 1.8 percent are in severe condition, while 1.19 percent are moderate cases.
The COVID-19 death toll reached 28,835 after 162 more patients succumbed to the viral illness. The country's case fatality rate is at 1.75 percent.
There were also 9,194 more patients who were cleared of COVID-19. This pushed the total number of recoveries to 1,544,443 or 93.6 percent of the total caseload.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the daily reported cases are expected to increase in the coming days.
“So, nakikita natin na sumisipa na ang mga kaso. Tumataas ang kaso. Nararamdaman na natin ang epekto ng Delta variant dito sa ating bansa (So, we see that the cases are starting to rise. We are already seeing the impact of the Delta variant here in our country),” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Aug. 7, in a televised public briefing.
