New LPA off Mindanao may intensify into tropical depression -- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has monitored a new low pressure area (LPA) outside the country's area of responsibility on Saturday morning, Aug. 7.

Weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the LPA was located 1,670 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 8 a.m.

Rojas said the weather disturbance is likely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as an LPA on Sunday, Aug. 8.

It may develop into a tropical depression inside the PAR and will be assigned a local name "Isang," he added.

However, the LPA has no direct effect yet on the country as of Saturday.

PAGASA advised the public to continue monitoring official updates regarding this weather disturbance as forecast scenarios can still change.

Tropical storm "Huaning" (international name "Lupit") is the only cyclone inside the PAR as of Saturday morning but PAGASA said the weather disturbance is expected to leave the area within the day.
