'Do not be afraid': Briones asks stakeholders to innovate, unite amidst the pandemic

Education Secretary Leonor Briones enjoined stakeholders to “innovate and act together” amidst the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic as the Department of Education (DepEd) gears up for the upcoming school year.

“We must act together and learn from the past,” Briones said during the kick-off of the annual “Brigada Eskwela” early this week. “We should innovate from the one year of dealing with the impact of pandemic,” she added.

During the National “Brigada Eskwela” kick-off, which was hosted by the Schools Division of Tagum City, Briones said that “we cannot continue doing things the way we did” and that all stakeholders should “get ready” and do what needs to be done “Do not be afraid,” she added.

This year’s National “Brigada Eskwela” - which will run from Aug. 3 to Sept. 30 - focuses on the preparations and partnership activities that will support the implementation of the Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) including the multiple learning delivery modalities.

Anchored on the slogan “Bayanihan para sa Paaralan,” Briones also dared everyone to strive for innovation and transformation to adapt to the changing education and learning environments and needs in the 21st century.

“Let us go on with what we have, what we can do, and what we are able to achieve,” Briones said. “Let us focus on our work in the Department of Education,” she added.

As approved by President Duterte, opening of classes for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 will be on Sept. 13.

With face-to-face classes still prohibited due to the COVID-19 situation in the country, students in basic education level are expected to continue their studies under enhanced blended learning approach.
