Abalos lauds CAMANAVA cities for 'orderly, systematic' vaccination amid ECQ

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) lauded the continuous vaccination rollout in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela--also known as the CAMANAVA area--amid the prevailing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status in the National Capital Region (NCR).

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos cited the "orderly, systematic, and intensified vaccination capacities" of the local government units (LGUs) in CAMANAVA in the first two days of ECQ.

Abalos led on Saturday, August 7, the inspection of the vaccination sites in these cities including the Pasolo Elementary School in Valenzuela, Robinsons Townmall in Malabon, Navotas City Hospital, and Caloocan Sports Complex.

During this visit, all local chief executives in the CAMANAVA area shared that the number of the administered vaccine shots has increased compared to their initial target for the ECQ period.

Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan told Abalos that the City initially targets to roll out 6,000 jabs, but it has reached an average of 17,000 to 20,000 a day since the start of the ECQ, while Navotas lone district Representative John Rey Tiangco said the city has tripled their daily vaccination target to 10,000 from the average 3,000 to 5,000.

Malabon City Mayor Antolin Oreta III also noted the increase on their administered COVID-19 jabs to 6,000 from the daily average of 3,100, while Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian said they are now way ahead of the quota as they have administered 10,000 vaccine shots from their pre-ECQ average of 5,200.

According to Abalos, the intensified efforts of these LGUs to vaccinate will help accomplish the 250,000 vaccine shots target to be administered within the two-week ECQ.

Abalos said the target vaccines to be distributed came from the additional 4 million doses allocated by the national government.

"Our goal is to inoculate 12.6 million or at least 45% of the total residents from NCR to achieve population protection the soonest possible time," the MMDA chief said.

"During this two-week period, we will ensure steady supply of vaccines for the 17 Metro Manila cities and municipality," he added.
