PH's single day COVID-19 vaccination hits over 710,000 - Dizon

The Philippines has administered more than 710,000 doses of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines in a single day, which is another record for the country’s inoculation campaign against the dreaded disease.

Secretary Vince Dizon, National Task Force Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer and testing czar, said the government has administered 710,482 coronavirus shots on Aug. 5, breaking its previous record of more than 700,000 doses.

“Napakalaking bagay nito lalo na ngayon papasok tayo sa ECQ and marami tayong mga kababayan na kailangan mabigyan ng proteksyon laban sa Delta variant (This is a big deal especially now that we are entering the ECQ and we have many people who need to be given protection against the Delta variant),” Dizon said in a public briefing Friday, Aug. 6.

Metro Manila has been placed under the strictest quarantine classification from Aug. 6 to 20 to stem the rise of infections and control the spread of the highly transmissible coronavirus variant.

According to Dizon, the government has administered a total of 23,199,187 doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of Aug. 5

Of the number, 12,493,997 shots have been administered for the first dose, while 10,705,190 doses have been administered for the second dose.

The Philippines has so far detected 331 cases of the highly contagious Delta variant.
