Petro Gazz topples Sta. Lucia, completes semis cast

Petro Gazz drew strength from Myla Pablo and Ria Meneses as it swept Sta Lucia, 25-13, 25-21, 25-22, Thursday night to complete the semifinal cast in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PVC Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

The dynamic duo of Pablo and Meneses erupted for a combined 25 kills to sizzle with 17 and 15 points as the Angels clinched their sixth win against two losses to tie with Chery Tiggo at joint third.

Petro Gazz’s feat dealt Sta Lucia its fourth defeat in nine matches, kissing its semis bid goodbye.

With the win, the Angels join frontrunner Creamline Cool Smashers (7-1), Choco Mucho Flying Titans (6-1) and Chery Tiggo into the next round.

Petro Gazz showed its all-around game by overpowering Sta Lucia in all fronts particularly in attacks, 43-34, and blocks 10-3.

Ria Meneses also showed prowess on the defensive end by posting four blocks, as the Angels also limited hard-hitting MJ Phillips and Jonah Sabete to 10 points each for Sta Lucia.

Petro Gazz coach Arnold Laniog was impressed with his wards, who only needed 78 minutes in dispatching Sta Lucia.

“Itong game na to, para sakin ito yung convincing game talaga namin na panalo talaga,” he said.
