Palawan State U students to represent PH in Petrobowl World Championship
Five petroleum engineering students from Palawan State University (PSU) will represent the Philippines in the Petrobowl World Championship 2021 which will be held later this year, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has announced.

This was after the PSU team won third place in the Asia-Pacific Petrobowl Regional Qualifiers 2021 held on July 10 to 11.
DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña cited that one of the team members is Prince Belandres Panes, a science and technology (S&T) undergraduate scholar.
“Out of the 32 participating universities from the Asia-Pacific Region offering BS (Bachelor of Science) Petroleum Engineering, the team managed to secure a spot in the top 5 making them the only university to represent the Philippines in the Petrobowl World Championship 2021 to be held later this year with regional qualifiers from Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, South America and Caribbean, Middle East, and North America,” he said in a report.
Other team members include Joshua Manginsay Guzman, Gwen Arianne Santillan Recoco, Mary Antonette Macariola, and Faye Molina.

The team is coached by Engr. Jared Ignacio, a faculty member of PSU’s Petroleum Engineering Department.
In a Facebook post, the PSU said it will be “the lone Philippine university” to compete in the event.
“This is the second time a team from the Palawan State University has qualified for the Petrobowl World Championship,” it said.
“It is the goal of the 2021 PSU Team to be the first-ever to set its feet in the anticipated Petrobowl World Championship.”
The Petrobowl competition is a yearly international quiz competition for all universities around the world offering BS Petroleum Engineering. Qualifying students compete against each other to answer questions ranging from fundamentals of petroleum engineering to the history and current events of the oil and gas industry.
