LRT-1 launches pro-vaccination themed train to remind passengers to get the jab

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has unveiled a special themed train on Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) as part of efforts to boost the country's vaccination program against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The themed train bears the Ingat Angat Bakuna Lahat campaign of the Taskforce T3 (Test, Trace, Treat)--a multi-sectoral public-private consortium of companies and organizations, including LRMC, which are working closely with the government to drive up COVID-19 vaccine confidence and speed up the country’s recovery.

The special-themed train has an all-around wrap design with a giant mask and face shield, showcasing vector images of people from different walks of life who are wearing face masks. A giant vaccine can also be seen on both sides of the train.

The particular train also has statements encouraging commuters to do their part in getting vaccinated.

Aside from implementing stringent safety protocols at LRT-1 premises, the LRMC also emphasized the importance of vaccines as the "best way to protect oneself and family" through the themed train.

"As a company which prioritizes the safety and well-being of our customers and employees, we wanted to contribute to the nationwide vaccination campaign in the best way we can," LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso said during the launch of the themed train on Thursday, Aug. 5.

"Our core mission is to provide a safe, reliable, efficient, and comfortable journey for our commuters, as well as support the mobility needs of Filipinos even while we’re under the community quarantine. This includes making sure that our passengers will feel confident to ride LRT-1 by advocating vaccination efforts and safety measures," he added.

The management also distributed free beep cards with minimum load to passengers who were able to present their vaccination cards with complete doses during the unveiling at the LRT-1 Baclaran Station.

According to the LRMC, at least 70 percent of its 1,200 employees have already been fully vaccinated under the company-wide inoculation program that was carried out with the help of the MVP Group as well as the Pasay and Manila local government units.

With more than 90 percent vaccine confidence level among its total workforce, LRMC expects to complete administering doses before the year ends.
