Here's how to support the PWDs and local businesses

This online shopping platform provides opportunities, especially this 8.8 sale

More than ever, in this lockdown that we are currently in, we have to help keep our economy stable by supporting businesses, especially those that belong to the small and micro, and by persons with disabilities (PWDs).

By the differently abled
One such section of Lazada that you should check out is their Precious Works of Differently Abled Enterprise (PWDe) where they highlight the talents of PWDs via their online shop. From food products such as French macarons, no bake cheesecakes, Korean samgyupsal sets, buko pandan, and macaroni; craft and gift items such as paintings, customized floral and basket arrangements, table runners, saori weaves, drawstring pouches, and T-shirts; and even services like encoding, cleaning, sign language classes, graphic design, and photography.

“I am excited with the possibility of empowering PWDs through this meaningful project,” says Arlene Tan-Bantoto, founding member of PWDe and a mother to an artistic daughter with Autism during the event held to empower PWD entrepreneurs.

Together with Archie David, founder of Independent Living and Learning Center which is a school for special needs-children; Princess Schuck, a marketing professional who has found passion in supporting PWDs; and Elyse Go, co-founder of Hand and Heart, a social enterprise that facilitates jobs and livelihood for PWDs, the four leads this online shopping effort to create a sustainable growth and livelihood for PWDs.

By the MSMEs
For Lazada's next project, it's in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) where they support the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). From August 8 to 12, this online shopping platform has something special for their 8.8 sale. Highlighting the Filipino craftsmanship and cuisine, the Lazada Go Lokal! concept store offers up to 88 percent off on their products, with an additional 10 percent off on local brands. Even better news—free shipping vouchers with no minimum spend nationwide.

“The pandemic brought on an era where e-commerce has become part of the backbone in driving the resilience and growth of businesses, large and small. For us at Lazada, it has always been our core mission to help Filipino businesses go and grow online. As a result, a big part of what we do has always been to work closely with our industry partners to ensure that we continue to provide opportunities for our MSMEs to digitize their business and to thrive online,” shares Lazada Philippines chief operating officer Carlos Barrera.

“Our MSMEs are the lifeblood of the country and through our strong partnership with Lazada Philippines, we are grateful and excited that even more homegrown entrepreneurs are positioned to be discovered, have access to a wider market, and are provided with better economic opportunities,” shares the DTI Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion director Marievic Bonoan.
