'Habagat' being enhanced by 4 tropical cyclones outside PAR -- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) monitored three tropical storms and one tropical depression outside the country's area of responsibility on Friday morning, Aug. 6.

Tropical storms "Mirinae" (formerly "Gorio"), "Nida," and "Lupit" were located 1,080 kilometers (km) northeast of extreme northern Luzon, 3,045 km northeast of extreme northern Luzon, and 580 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, respectively.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression was estimated at 1,795 km northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the four cyclones have a slim chance of entering the Philippine area of responsibility but may continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or "habagat" in the next few days.

Scattered monsoon rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Benguet, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorms are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and gusty winds that usually last up to two hours.
