COVID-19 mission: PCG transports medical frontliners, COVID-19 jabs in Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced Friday, August 6, that it has transported medical personnel and coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines in Tawi-Tawi and Zamboanga City to inoculate residents in the far-flung areas.

The medical personnel and the vaccines boarded BRP Cape Engaño (MRRV-4411) as they embarked on a seven-day ferry mission to Bongao, Tawi-Tawi; and Mapun and Taganak Islands from July 25 to August 3.

The PCG said the initiative led to the vaccination of at least 3,196 residents in Mapun Island and 1,120 residents in Taganak Island.

Meanwhile, eight boxes of Johnson and Johnson's Janssen vaccine as well as various medical supplies were also transported by the crew of BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) in Sacol Island, Zamboanga City.

The Coast Guard said frontliners from the City Health Office (CHO) – Region IX have also joined in the transport mission.

Last June 23, the PCG transported 3,000 vials of Chinese-made Sinovac vaccines for residents in Mapun, Tawi-Tawi amid the surge of cases in Mindanao.
