Another QC barangay requires vaccine cards for quarantine pass issuance
Another barangay in Quezon City is requiring its residents to be vaccinated first against COVID-19 before they are issued their quarantine passes.
A video posted on Twitter by a Barangay Central resident, who requested anonymity, showed a female barangay officer telling the constituents that they "need to be vaccinated" first, otherwise, "they will not be given a quarantine pass."
The resident asked what are the option for the unvaccinated individual in case he or she needs to go outside to do something. The officer replied: "Maybe, he or she can ask others (to do it for them)."
The video was taken Friday morning at the barangay hall of Barangay Central, the video uploader said. She clarified she has already been fully vaccinated but took the video while asking the barangay officer because some of her friends told her about the policy.
"(I) wanted (to know) straight from (the) barangay officials," she said.
The video has already garnered at least 12,000 views three hours after its posting and drew mixed reactions from Twitter users.
In a statement Friday night, the local government clarified that residents do not need to be vaccinated first before being qualified to get a quarantine pass
On August 2, residents of Barangay Quirino 2-B also questioned their barangay officials for implementing the same policy and even sought clarification from the local government.
Meanwhile, activist and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) Secretary General Renato Reyes, who saw the policy through the barangay's Facebook post, called it “discriminatory" and said it is not even the "people's fault" that they are not yet vaccinated.
“Many are still not vaccinated due to lack of supply, limited vaccination appointment slots, and slow rollout of the national government,” Reyes said.
