Valenzuela City ready for possible COVID cases surge

The local government of Valenzuela City is preparing for a possible surge of COVID-19 cases.

“I think the city is in good shape, in the sense na ready tayo kung dumami pa ‘yan (I think the city is in good shape, in the sense that we are ready if they increase),” Mayor Rex Gatchalian said at the Laging Handa Press briefing.

He said they have stocked oxygen tanks and other medical equipment to take care of COVID-19 patients.

Out of the city's 1,400 beds for COVID-19 patients, 700 are occupied.

“Kung sakaling mag su-surge pa ‘yan may naka-backup pa kami na mga school sites na may kagamitan na handa na pwede ilatag agad para dumami pa ‘yung capacity namin (In case there is a surge of infections, we have backed-up school sites with equipment that can be immediately used to increase our capacity),” he said.

Gatchalian assured that they have ample contact tracers and field operators for massive contact tracing.

As of Thursday (August 4), the city has 702 active COVID cases.
