Remulla worried about looming ECQ's effect on Cavite's manufacturing industry

CAVITE - Governor Jonvic Remulla said the looming implementation of the nhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the province of Cavite will deal another blow to the province's manufacturing industry.

The governor took to Twitter on Thursday (August 5) to express his concerns about the Inter-Agency Task Force's (IATF) possible move to impose a stricter quarantine classification in Cavite.

"My only reservation against the IATF’s plan to declare Cavite under ECQ will be the manufacturing industry. We have been monitoring the transmission rates inside the factories and they are very low. The businesses observe all protocols and safety standards," Remulla tweeted.

"In fact, a factory like HRD in PEZA with 22,000 workers only have 6 active cases. They are then immediately isolated to protect the other workers."

According to the governor, implementing ECQ will cause a huge impact on the province's economy, and that his stand has always been to allow the manufacturing industry to continue its operations despite the stricter quarantine status.

"While the LGUs commit to support the IATF’s ruling as mandated, we are praying Cavite be spared from being put under ECQ again. The people are drained. They feel hopeless. Let us first think about those who will be impacted the heaviest by last minute decisions," Remulla added.

"We are also working nonstop to have as many people vaccinated. But the supply of the province is controlled by the DOH and not enough is provided. So we have made our own procurement (approx 1.5 million doses) for NOVAVAX. I will continue to update on this."

Remulla had earlier said that Cavite's Novavax order is set to arrive before the end of the month.
