
The Philippines has once again saw more than 8,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, August 5.
Based on the latest case bulletin, there were 8,127 additional COVID-19 cases, pushing the nationwide running total to 1,627,816.
The last time that the country recorded over 8,000 cases in a single-day was on Monday, August 2, with 8,167 cases then.
There is still no data with regards to the areas that logged the highest number of new cases. But based on the COVID-19 situationer released on Wednesday night, August 4, most cases then were found in Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Central Visayas, Central Luzon, and Western Visayas.
Out of the total number of confirmed infections, 4.1 percent or 66,895 are considered active cases, the DOH said.
Of the active cases 94.6 percent have mild symptoms, one percent were asymptomatic, 1.1 percent were in critical condition, 1.9 percent were severe, and 1.30 percent were in moderate condition.
The death toll climbed to 28,427 or 1.75 percent of the overall caseload after 196 more people died.
However, the recovery tally increased to 1,532,494 or 94.1 percent of the country’s total case count after 4,343 more patients have beaten the viral disease.
