Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III said Thursday that he received an unconfirmed report that two coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Pateros are Delta variants.
“The sad news is, this is unconfirmed as of the moment, but this was sent to me and this is being confirmed. What I received is that there are two people who tested positive in Pateros who were found to be Delta variants. This will be confirmed by the DOH within the day,” he said.

He said this may be the reason for the sudden increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Pateros. He said the two Delta variant cases are reported to be in two barangays in Pateros.
During a press briefing held Tuesday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire presented a table showing that there are 48 Delta variant cases in Metro Manila as of Aug. 2.
These are Malabon, 4 cases; Makati, 3; San Juan, 2; Las Piñas, 14; Valenzuela, 1; Pasig, 6; Mandaluyong, 2; Manila, 12; and Caloocan, 4.
On Wednesday, Ponce announced that granular lockdowns will be imposed in several areas in Pateros due to a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
“You know, our COVID-19 positive cases are very high. To date, we have 197 positives and based on our population, this is very high. The truth is we are at a critical level. Pateros has the highest in Metro Manila based on our population and we equate that and we get the proportion, this is very high,” said the mayor.
Vergeire said Pateros and Malabon are at a critical risk based on two-week growth rates (TWGR) and average daily attack rate (ADAR) on COVID-19 cases.
“An attack rate is defined as the proportion of those who became ill after a specified exposure,” according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to the DOH, Pateros has 202 total active cases as of Aug. 2 based on the COVID Kaya data. It has a moving two-week growth rate of 328 percent, the highest in the National Capital Region (NCR), based on data from July to 19 and July 20 to Aug. 2.
Pateros also has an ADAR of 22.06 from July 20 to Aug. 2, the highest in NCR.
