Manila 'ready' for third ECQ

The city of Manila is “ready” for the re-implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the National Capital Region (NCR), Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said Thursday, Aug. 5.

Domagoso signed Executive Order No. 20 which puts stricter measures on businesses, transportation, and movement of people within the city as it is placed under ECQ for the third time on Friday, Aug.6.

The mayor said the order is in line with the “proactive measures” set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) which includes a curfew of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for all residents except for Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs).

"Walang may gusto na mag-lockdown ulit, pero kinakailangang gawin para mapigilan ang posibleng pagdami pa ng kaso ng COVID-19, lalo na ang mas delikado na Delta variant (Nobody wants another lockdown, but it needed to be done so that we can stop the possible surge of COVID-19 cases, especially now that we have the more dangerous Delta variant),” Domagoso said.

"Patuloy lang po nating sundin ang lahat ng alituntunin ng IATF (Let us continue to abide by the rules of the IATF). Siguro (I think), by now, ay nasanay na tayo rito. But I am really hoping this will be the last time for us to be under ECQ),” the mayor added.

Domagoso, meanwhile, clarified that vaccinations will continue in the city during ECQ.

In an interview during the opening of Sta. Ana Hospital’s dialysis center, the mayor said the only difference between the rules under the latest ECQ is that individuals who are scheduled for vaccination will be allowed to go outside their homes as long as they can show proof of their vaccination schedule.
