Louis Vuitton pays homage to its founder's 200th birth anniversary with special tributes

From artistic collaborations to an immersive video game, the French luxury label goes all out to celebrate monsieur's legacy

Aug. 4, 2021 marks a special day for Louis Vuitton as it celebrates the 200th birth anniversary of its namesake founder. That's why the luxury label is going all out to pay homage to its visionary's legacy with a year-long tribute.

The French maison starts it with a grand collaboration with musicians, artists, Olympians, among others. Dubbed as "Louis 200," the project produces 200 specially designed trucks, which what Monsieur Louis Vuitton built his brand on in 1854. Korean boy band BTS, author Susan Miller, designer Marc Jacobs, Paralympic swimmer Théo Curin, and illustrator Jean-Philippe Delhomm are among the 200 trunk designers.

Showcased in Louis Vuitton boutiques around the globe, the trunks will also be for a cause. Pieces from "Louis 200" will be auctioned off and all profits are said to be donated to 15 art education programs across the world.

"Louis: The Game"

Part of its activation is "Louis: The Game," which is now available for download. Created by the team behind mobile game "League of Legends," the maison's interactive game features its mascot Vivienne in different locations inspired by Paris, London, and Beijing.

Louis Vuitton novel

Prepare to dive deep into the life of the man behind the iconic fashion brand. Louis Vuitton is also releasing a fiction novel centering on the monsieur's journey. Written by French author Caroline Bongrand, the book will be published in French and English and expected to be on the shelves by October. Coinciding it is a documentary titled "Looking for Louis," which follows the founder's life as a youth.
