It's time for Hidilyn to get married, says her mom

A birthday celebration and a mom's blessing.

That's what's in store for Olympic gold medalist, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz following the arrival of her parents from Zamboanga on Thursday night, August 5.

Reports said the Emerlita and Eduardo Diaz touched down at Ninoy Aquno International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 in Pasay City at around 6 p.m. aboard a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight.

Emerlita, in an interview with reporters at NAIA, said they're very excited to see their daughter Hidilyn after the latter's historic triump at the quadrennial games wherein she won the country's first Olympic gold medal. She said they've only been able to speak with her via online chat.

Emerlita revealed that she will be celebrating her birthday on August 7. Asked what gift she expects from her "golden girl", she said, "I don't know."

Hidilyn's gold medal finish came with pledges of ten of millions worth of cash gifts and incentives from politicians and the private sector. According to Mrs. Diaz, she would "leave it up to Hidilyn" the decision on how to use her newfound fortune.

Emerlita bared that Hidilyn 30, had promised her and her husband that they would travel the world together as a family.

Asked by reporters regarding Hidilyn's relationship with her boyfriend-coach Julius Naranjo, Emerlita said that her daughter "is already old enough so it's time for her to get married".
