Dizon stresses importance of getting vaccinated amid Delta threat
National Task Force (NTF) Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Vince Dizon stressed on Thursday, Aug. 5, the importance of getting vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) amid the threat of the more contagious Delta variant.

In a virtual briefing, Dizon emphasized that those fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are "more protected" against the Delta variant.
"The vaccine is very important, especially as a protection against the Delta variant. We see from different countries, not just in the Philippines, that if you're vaccinated, especially if you are fully vaccinated, you will be protected against the Delta variant," Dizon said in Filipino.
Citing data from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), he said 86 percent of COVID-19 positive patients in PGH are unvaccinated.
"The remaining 14 percent have been vaccinated with at least one dose, but they only experience mild or moderate illness," Dizon continued.
"All severe and critical cases are not vaccinated. This is what we also see in various cities in the Philippines," he added.

Quoting Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dizon said COVID-19 is becoming a "pandemic of the unvaccinated."
"I hope we take advantage and get vaccinated."
The Philippines has so far administered 22.4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses
