DepEd releases official calendar, activities for SY 2021-2022; separate guidelines on enrolment to be released

The Department of Education (DepEd) has finally released the official calendar and activities for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.

DepEd issued on Wednesday, Aug.5, the School Calendar and Activities for SY 2021-2022, “in accordance with its commitment to learning continuity amidst the health crisis.”

President Duterte has approved Sept. 13, 2021 as the opening date of the SY 2021-2022.

Based on DepEd Order No. 029, series of 2021, SY 2021-2022 which consists of 209 school days, inclusive of Saturdays and the five-day midyear break, will end on June 24, 2022.

With the compressed school year, DepEd said the conduct of distance learning activities on Saturdays is authorized.

Should religious considerations prevent these Saturday activities, these may be conducted on Sundays. Nonetheless, teachers will not be required to render service on Saturdays and Sundays.

“The conduct of face-to-face classes, whether in partial or full scale, will not be allowed unless permitted by the Office of the President.”

DepEd allowed private schools and state or local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs) to implement or deviate from the school calendar.

“Moreover, they may begin classes not earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than Sept. 13, 2021 pursuant to RA (Republic Act) 11480,” it said.

“Nevertheless, any deviation from the school calendar shall be reported to the respective Regional Offices (ROs) in advance.”

DepEd said schools may observe national and local celebrations or activities and holidays, provided that these are beneficial to the teaching-learning process and that the total number of class days will not be compromised.

Regional Offices may issue supplemental calendars to reflect their local events, it said.

“In preparation for the opening of classes, Brigada Eskwela and Oplan Balik Eskwela shall be conducted, focusing on information campaign and strengthening partnerships that complement the Department’s effort to ensure quality basic education.”

DepEd issued the implementing guidelines on SY 2021-2022 School Calendar and Activities, which cover both public and private elementary and secondary schools including community learning centers (CLCs).

Based on the guidelines, SY 2021-2022 will formally start on Sept. 13, 2021, Monday and will end on June 24, 2022, Friday.

In the Alternative Learning System, learning intervention will formally open on Sept. 13, 2021. The program duration will be dependent on the learner’s educational background or existing knowledge level prior to enrolment in the ALS program.

In preparation for the opening of classes for SY 2021-2022, enrolment will be held from Aug. 16 to Sept. 13.

DepEd said a separate set of guidelines on enrollment so SY 2021-2022 will be released.

It said the “Brigada Eskwela” and “Oplan Balik Eskwela” are to be held on announced dates and will focus on information campaign, preparations, and strengthening partnerships that complement the DepEd’s effort to ensure quality basic education.

DepEd said the Christmas break will begin on Dec. 20, Saturday and classes will resume on Jan. 3, 2022, Monday.

The remedy or advancement classes for public schools will start on July 4, 2022, Monday, and shall end on Aug. 12, 2022, Friday.
