Año: NCR beneficiaries with no COVID jabs entitled to 'ayuda'

All qualified beneficiaries of the national government's cash assistance (ayuda) in the National Capital Region during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) are still entitled to receive it even if they have not yet been vaccinated, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said on Thursday, August 5.

Año made the statement amid the spreading disinformation that beneficiaries will not be allowed to receive the cash assistance unless they show proof that they were vaccinated.

“That’s fake news. All qualified ayuda beneficiaries will receive the ayuda whether vaccinated or not,’’ Año said.

Metro Manila will be under ECQ from August 6 to 20 in a bid to contain the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19.

One of the recipients, Paolo Angel Santos of Valenzuela City that those who spread the disinformation should be punished, saying it caused alarm to the poor who are relying on the government for assistance during the ECQ.

"I went to college somehow. Informal workers as far as i know are people like balut vendors, cigarette vendors, fishball vendors and the like. I hope that the government can provide enough cash aid for them especially if the ECQ lasts more than two weeks. The government is in the quandary but I know they can find solutions to this problem without the country suffering so much economically,’’ Santos said.
