Shooter Jayson Valdez: Tokyo Olympics stint just the beginning

Shooter Jayson Valdez said his maiden Olympic stint has motivated him to aspire for bigger things.

Valdez finished 44th out of 47 participants in the men’s 10-meter air rifle to bow out of medal contention in the Tokyo Games.

But the 25-year-old said in a recent social media post that the Olympic experience is only just the beginning.

“I may be bowing out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but this definitely isn't the end of anything,” Valdez said. “Qualifying for this event (at the last minute!) has truly been an honor in itself! It's been an amazing journey — and we're not stopping here!”

The Cabanatuan native secured an unexpected slot in Tokyo based on the accumulated scores he compiled in the qualifying tournaments.

But Valdez fell short of moving to the finals after posting 612.6 in the qualifications.

“I got so much lessons and realizations from this experience that I'm taking with me as we move forward. Puso!” Valdez concluded in his post.
