National Task Force (NTF) Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Vince Dizon on Wednesday, Aug. 4, said the Philippines is capable of testing "more" people now, compared to a year ago when the country didn't have "the capacity to do so."

During the virtual Town Hall NCR Lockdown, Dizon said the country is currently conducting risk-based testing.
"We test those who come into a certain risk profile, meaning symptomatic, contacts of [COVID-19) positive or symptomatic individuals, and people who live in outbreak areas," Dizon said, noting that the guidelines are guided by health experts.
He reiterated that the reason why the country's testing protocols are based on risk is because of "finite resources."
"Because we have finite resources, testing -- like vaccination, like any other COVID intervention -- costs money and we have finite resources. We need to give ayuda (aid), we need to do so many things, we need to hire doctors and nurses, we need to build more quarantine facilities, so we need to essentially use our finite resources efficiently," Dizon said.
"However, it's important to note that in terms of our capacity to test, meaning if you need to test a lot of people at one time, we have that. Especially in NCR and big cities all over our country."
The daily average number of COVID-19 tests in the country is around 40,000 to 50,000, said Dizon.
"But if needed to ramp up, we now have the capacity to do that compared to a year ago when we didn't have that lab capacity."
