Lacson to PNP: Take second look at restrictions against APOR

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Wednesday, August 4, asked the Philippine National Police to "take a second look" on its plan to prohibit fetching of authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) to and from their workplaces during the hard lockdown in Metro Manila from August 6 to 20.

"The Philippine National Police should at least take a second look at some restrictions during the two-week enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila - such as not allowing the fetching of APORs," Lacson, a former PNP chief, said in a statement.

"Huwag naman sanang pabigla-bigla ang (Let's not hasty with our) restrictions, to a point of being impractical if not illogical," he added.

PNP chief General Guillermo Eleazar explained that allowing fetching may be "abused" and be used an excuse by those not authorized to go out during the ECQ.

"Kung kayo po ay workforce APOR ay hindi ka pwede magpahatid kung hindi ka marunong mag-drive (If you are a workforce APOR, you are not allowed to be fetched if you do not know how to drive)," Eleazar announced in over ABS-CBN's Teleradyo.

But Lacson advised the PNP leadership to "exert a little extra effort" to give APORs -- who are mostly economic and health frontliners -- some convenience during the two-week lockdown. He called for a possible "win-win solution" on the matter.

"Baka may paraan (There might be a way) to satisfy both health concerns and a little convenience for our APORs who need to work to feed their families, or render indispensable service to others, like health workers and other frontliners," the senator appealed.

The ECQ will again be imposed over Metro Manila in a bid to control the surge of COVID-19 cases due to the emergence of the Delta variant.
