Twelve out of 22 Level 3 hospitals in Metro Manila that are being monitored by the Department of Health (DOH) are now considered at "critical risk" in terms of the occupancy of their respective intensive care units (ICUs).

The data was presented Wednesday, Aug. 4 by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos during the Go Negosyo Town Hall meeting. The MMDA was a co-organizer of the virtual event.

"Just look at the red ones. These are now the critical ones...And this is already August 2," Abalos said, drawing attention to a chart-style graphic that was littered with red ink.

"This is what we're trying to avoid, overburdening our hospitals. Just trying to stave off the infections right now," he said, referring to the upcoming imposition of an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila from Aug. 6 to 20.

The Level 3 hospitals that are at critical risk as are follows: East Avenue Medical Center, Chinese General Hospital, Metropolitan Medical Center, Capitol Medical Center, Ospital ng Makati, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, San Juan de Dios Foundation, University of Perpetual Help Dalta Medical Center, UP-Philippine General Hospital, VRP Medical Center, V. Luna Medical Center, and St. Luke's Medical Center.

Of the 12, seven are already at 100 percent capacity with their ICU. These are East Avenue Medical Center, Chinese General Hospital, Metropolitan Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, San Juan de Dios Foundation, University of Perpetual Help Dalta Medical Center, and VRP Medical Center.

The reimposition of ECQ is meant to halt the spread of the more dangerous Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
