3 modular hospitals for severe COVID cases at Lung Center almost complete--DPWH

Three modular hospitals intended to accommodate severe and critical cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at the Lung Center of the Philippines will soon be completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

The construction of the additional hospital facilities are expected to be finished by Aug. 9.

These modular health facilities "will manage a possible surge of COVID-19 patients considered severe and critical conditions that will require hospitalization," DPWH Secretary and Chief Isolation Czar Mark A. Villar said.

According to Undersecretary Emil Sadain, head of DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Health Facilities, the three modular hospital units have a total capacity of 66 beds.

Meanwhile, the construction of an additional two cluster units with 44 rooms are also nearing completion, the agency said. One of these units will serve as an intensive care unit (ICU) for patients needing a higher level of medical monitoring and complex treatment.

A 16-room off-site dormitory for healthcare workers equipped with toilet and bath as well as double decker beds for 32 people will also be built.

The inclusion of dormitory facilities with kitchen and laundry area for off-duty hospital workers is meant to improve the billeting conditions of Lung Center frontliners who handle COVID-19 cases.
