Yuka Saso moves up to No. 6 in world rankings

Filipino-Japanese golfer Yuka Saso has moved up to the No. 6 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings, her best placing so far following the latest update on August 30.

The 20-year-old Saso, the reigning US Women’s Open champion, jumped from the ninth spot despite her decision to have a break following a tie for 39th finish in the last AIG Women’s Open in Scotland.

Saso is now ahead of Hyo Joo Kim of South Korea, American Danielle Kang and Brooke Henderson of Canada, three players that now occupy the seventh to ninth spots of the rankings.

The top 5 remains the same as American Nelly Korda is at No. 1, followed by Koreans Jin Young Ko, Inbee Park and Sei Young Kim, Kiwi Lydia Ko of New Zealand is at fifth place.

Saso will resume her campaign in the LPGA Tour next month as she is expected to participate in eight tournaments.

Some of the events she is expected to join are the $1.4 million Cambia Portland Classic on Sept. 16-19, the $2.3 million Walmart NW Arkansas on Sept. 24-26 in Arizona, as well as the $1.75 million ShopRite LPGA Classic on Oct. 1-3 and the P3 million Cognizant Founders Cup on Oct. 7-10 at Galloway and West Caldwell both in New Jersey.

Saso earned a full five-year membership on the LPGA Tour for winning the US Women’s Open title and she is expected to compete there for the rest of the year instead in the Japan LPGA, where she started her pro career in 2020 and won three titles.
