Pateros' active COVID-19 cases surge by 52%

The active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Pateros increased by 52 percent in one week.

Pateros, the smallest local government unit (LGU) in Metro Manila, added 90 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 30, bringing the total active cases to 512, an increase of 176 cases, or 52 percent from 336 last Aug. 23.

From Aug. 23 to 30, Pateros added 348 new cases as its confirmed cases jumped to 5,985 from 5,637. In the same period, two deaths from COVID-19 were recorded from 73 to 75.

Of the 512 active COVID-19 cases, 489 are in isolation while the remaining 23 are scheduled for isolation.

A total of 307 cases, or 60 percent, of the 512 are asymptomatic, 205 have mild COVID-19 symptoms, and no severe case was reported.

Barangay Sta. Ana has the highest number of active cases in Pateros with 172, followed by Aguho, 105; Santo Rosario-Silangan, 45; San Roque, 42; Martirez Del 96, 40; Tabacalera, 33; Santo Rosario-Kanluran, 32; Poblacion, 25; Magtanggol, 16; and San Pedro, 2.

The Department of Health (DOH) listed Pateros as having seven cases of the highly contagious Delta variant as of Aug. 24.

Based on the DOH’s record of 338 active cases for Pateros as of Aug. 25, the agency reported that the municipality is classified as high risk with a moving growth rate of cases of 89.94 percent based on the periods Aug. 12 to 18, and Aug. 19 to 25.

Pateros’ moving average daily attack rate (ADAR) from Aug. 12 to 25 was 50.55 percent, the highest among the 17 LGUs in the National Capital Region.

On Aug. 30, Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III announced that the Villa Monica vaccination site was temporarily shut down after health workers tested positive for COVID-19.

He said the municipal government will implement strict granular lockdowns due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
