DOH logs over 13K new COVID-19 cases

The country has recorded 13,827 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) latest bulletin showed that the active cases nationwide increased to 145,562 while the country's running tally of confirmed infections rose to 1,989,857.

The DOH noted that the "relatively low number of cases today is due to lower laboratory output last Sunday (Aug. 29). Lower number of samples from disease reporting units or local government units are also being observed during Sundays," the DOH said.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that most cases are being seen in the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon.

Of the active cases, the DOH said 95.9 percent were mild infections, 1.4 percent were asymptomatic, 0.6 percent were critical, 1.1 percent were severe, and 0.99 percent were moderate.

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported 16,759 new recoveries, raising the country's recovery count to 1,810,847 or 91 percent of the country's total case count.

The death toll, on the other hand, rose to 33,448 after the DOH reported 118 new deaths among COVID-19 patients.
